Dr. Iris Cushing
Providing professional, student-centered, holistically minded support for your college application journey.
How I Work
Teenagers applying to college are going through a very special rite of passage. Supporting them in this once-in-a-lifetime transition is my passion. Having taught in classrooms and writing centers at Columbia University, Macaulay Honors College and the United States Military Academy at West Point, I know firsthand what skills and competencies students need to succeed in college.
I translate this knowledge into my college application consulting practice, using the process as an opportunity for high school students to begin thinking and expressing themselves at the college level. They’ll discover how to articulate their own interests and goals in a way that communicates who they are to college admissions committees. By breaking the application process into manageable steps and working on one element at a time, we’ll create memorable, effective applications that will pave the way for the next phase of your child’s journey.
College application support and success
Tackling the college process is a massive effort, one that can be daunting to teenagers as they manage everything else on their plate…Iris sets up a months-long schedule and helps her students execute complex college applications. She worked closely with our daughter, meeting weekly to help her narrow down her college selections, brainstorm essay ideas, and edit the final product. We could not be happier with Iris and the outcome.

Iris’s guidance kept everything around supplements and applications in line and moving forward and took the stress out of our relationship with our daughter. My daughter had lots of great acceptances, including the school she initially felt most drawn to.
